Webb "Gene" Eugene Hastings, 89, of Mooresville died Tuesday, Dec. 19, 2006 at Genesis ElderCare. Born Nov. 11, 1917 in Mecklenburg County, he was the son of the late Webb Robert and Janie Thompson Hastings. He was a retired self-employed sawmill operator. He was a member of Faith Presbyterian Church, where he served as an Elder Emeritus, treasurer for many years at Calvary Presbyterian where he served as a Deacon and an Elder and was a member of Woodmen of the World. He was preceded in death by sisters, Sudie Bell Brown and Evelyn Thompson, and brothers, Thomas and Joseph Hastings. Mr. Hastings is survived by his wife of 67 years, Jessie Hager Hastings; daughter, Linda H. Lipe and husband, Rev. J. Paul Lipe, of Delhi, La.; son, Tony E. Hastings and wife, Diane, of Rock Hill, S.C.; grandchildren, Mary Linda Johnson, Jonathan Lipe, Tawnya Copeland and Mandy Distefano and great-grandchildren, Trey and Mary Hastings Moss, Sarah, Anna Kathryn and John Paul Lipe, Tristen, Hayden and Teagan Copeland and Atalana and Anthony Distefano. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Dec. 21 at 3 p.m. at Faith Presbyterian Church with Rev. J. Paul Lipe and Rev. Newton Hoover officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
