Ralph Hastings

Known for his gentle way and kind words, Fayetteville's Ralph Hastings died Friday afternoon at his home on Molino Road. He was 86.

He was a longtime educator, former superintendent of Lincoln County schools and a civic leader, serving many community organizations here in the 25 years since his retirement.

Funeral services were conducted Sunday afternoon at Higgins Funeral Home with the Revs. Allen Black and Ed Templeton officiating.

Born Jan. 22, 1919 in Petersburg, Mr. Hastings was the youngest of five children, now all deceased, born to Carl Albert and Gracie Lucinda Carter Hastings.

He graduated from Morgan School in Petersburg and served in the U.S. Army from February 1942 to March 1946 and returned in February 1948 to escort 53 World War II soldiers to be buried throughout the southeastern states. He was discharged in May of 1949 and began his studies at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

He graduated there in 1952 and began his teaching career at Blanche High School where he taught vocational agriculture. In 1956, he moved to Central High School in Fayetteville where he taught vocational agriculture until moving to the central office of Lincoln County Schools System in 1972. He was elected superintendent of schools in 1976 and retired in September of 1980.

Mr. Hastings supervised the consolidation of the county high schools when Lincoln County High School was established in 1979.

He received his bachelor of science degree from the University of Tennessee in Knoxville and his master's degree from Middle Tennessee State University and Honorary American Farmer Degree from the Future Farmers of America.

Mr. Hastings served as president of the Vocational Agriculture Teachers of Tennessee, director of the Lincoln County Farm Bureau, chairman of the Lincoln County Soil Conservation Service (NRCS), member of the board of directors of Fayetteville/Lincoln County Library, member of the board of directors of Fayetteville/ Lincoln County Museum, advisor for Young Farmers and Ranchers and commander of American Legion Post 42.

Flora Cassity Reed

Flora Cassity Reed, 88, passed away Friday, April 14, 2006, in Granbury. Funeral services were at 4 p.m. Sunday, April 16, 2006 at Wiley Funeral Home. Burial: Granbury Cemetery. Memorials: First United Methodist Church Playground Fund.

Mrs. Reed was born June 12, 1917, in Foss, Okla., to Charles and Nancy Reeder Cassity. She married Gordon B. Reed, Dec. 4, 1935, in Decatur.

Mrs. Reed worked at the Maybelle Dress factory for 17 years and then was the owner/operator of Reed's Forgetmenot for 17 years.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Granbury.

Preceding her in death was a brother, Jasper Doyle Cassity in 1917; her twin sister, Lora May Cassity in 1925; husband, Gordon Reed in 1961; father, Charles Alvin Cassity in 1977; and mother, Nancy Ann Cassity in 1982.

Survivors are a sister, Inell Reed of Granbury; children, Martha Ann Osburn and husband, Johnny, of Early; Gordon Ray Reed and wife, Barbara, of Wharton; Sherrie Matlock and husband, Tom, of Granbury; Danny Reed and wife, Kathleen, of Granbury; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

Wiley Funeral Home of Granbury was in charge of arrangements.

Larry Dean Huse

Larry D Huse died Friday, Dec. 9, 2005 at his home after a battle with cancer. A lifelong resident of Lubbock, Larry was born in Corpus Christi on July 10, 1946 and was preceded in death by his parents J.R. and Wanda Huse.

Larry was known for his joy in a good time with friends and shared his bright and direct spirit. He was a loyal and loving friend to those who knew him well, and he had a generous and caring nature recognized by many.

Survivors include his son, Hayden Huse; brother, Michael Huse; two nephews; the Bailey Family; several aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.

The family requests donations to Hospice of Lubbock or the American Cancer Society.

Visitation will be from 3 until 4 p.m. today at Resthaven Funeral Home. Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 12th in Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with the Rev. Bruce Cotton officiating.

Mary Louise Hubbard Sills

A service to celebrate the life of Mary Louise “Lou” Hubbard Sills, 71, will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at Gilead Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church in Huntersville, NC, with private interment in the church cemetery.

Rev. Richard “Dickie” Knight of Lexington UMC, Lexington, SC, and Rev. Woody Alexander, retired, of Huntersville, will be officiating. Visitation will be Tuesday, November 28, 2006, from 4-6 p.m. at Raymer Funeral Home in Huntersville. Born December 14, 1935, to James Oscar and Mary Grier Hubbard, Lou lost her long battle with cancer November 23, 2006, in Columbia, South Carolina.

Lou was predeceased by her loving husband, Bill Sills; brothers, Henry and Bob Hubbard; sisters-in-law, Peggy and Violet Hubbard.

Surviving are daughters, Cathey Sills-Lewis of Lexington, SC, and Donna Sills of Denver, NC; son, Michael Sills of Portland, OR; siblings, Ben, Thomas and Joe Hubbard; sisters-in-law, Frankie, Margaret and Faye Hubbard; sons-in-law, Craig Lewis and Terry Shutter; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Sills; grandchildren, Matthew and Jennifer Lewis, Alexa Shutter, Connor and McKenzie Sills.

Lou, a graduate of Erskine College, worked as a secretary for the United Presbyterian Church in Lenoir, and later for the Lenoir Tax office. Lou enjoyed spending time with her family and friends, volunteered her time with Meals-on-Wheels, and lending a hand to neighbors. Lou will be missed by many and was loved by all. Lou lived her life to bring joy to others, always putting others first. She is home with our Heavenly Father.

Reginald Lee Hastings, Jr.

NEW ORLEANS - Reginald Lee Hastings passed away Saturday evening, September 5, 2009, at Baptist Hospital.

Reg was born in Atkins, Arkansas and attended Southern State (University of Southern Arkansas) where he met his wife of 62 years, Mary Ann Davis Hastings. They continued on to University of Oklahoma where he received a BS in Geology. In 1955, Reg started his career with Carter Oil and continued his career with Humble Oil and Refining Company and Exxon. He retired in 1984 from Exxon but came out of retirement to work for Tidewater and later opened a New Orleans office for Alfred Lampson.

Along with his wife, Mary Ann, Reg is also survived by three children, Sharon Billeaud (Paul), Ann LeBlanc, and Scott Hastings (Diny). He had seven grandchildren, Brian (Andrea) and Eric Billeaud, Joey LeBlanc, and Katie, Scott, Jr., and Reggie Hastings. He had two great-grandchildren, Paul James and Mary Beth Billeaud.

Reg was preceded in death by his parents, Reginald, Sr. and Virgie Hastings; two brothers; a sister and son-in-law, Ashton "Manny" LeBlanc.

Memorial services will be held Saturday, September 12, 2009, at Oak Park Baptist Church, 1110 Kabel Drive, New Orleans, LA, for Reginald Lee Hastings.

Nancy Hastings Conder

Funeral services for Mrs. Nannie Hastings Conder, aged 83 years, who died at her home Wednesday after a brief illness, were held Thursday, at 11:00 a.m., at the Beasley Funeral Home by Prof. R. K. Morgan, assisted by Eld. J. W. Sanders. She was the daughter of the late Joe and Mary Ann Hastings, and was born and reared near here. She was a member of the Church of Christ. She had been a widow twenty-seven years. Her husband, Johnny Conder, having passed away twenty-seven years ago. Surviving are one daughter, Mrs. Bud Tate, of Shelbyville; three sons, George Conder, of Shelbyville; Alva and Ross Conder, of Petersburg, and six grandchildren. Burial at Old Orchard Cemetery.

Thomas Hastings Greer, Sr.

PENSACOLA, Fla. — Graveside service for Thomas Hastings Greer, Sr. will be held today at 1:30 p.m. at the Odd Fellows Cemetery in Grenada, Miss. with the Rev. Lynn Barker of All Saints Episcopal Church officiating. Waters and Hibbert Funeral Home of Pensacola and Garner Harper Funeral Home of Grenada are in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Greer, 94, of Pensacola, died Saturday, August 25, 2007. Mr. Greer was born in Paris, Tenn., to Stanley Thomas and Anna Hastings Greer on July 27, 1913. He graduated from Bowling Green Business School and the Memphis School Of Law. He worked with The William A. Webster Pharmaceutical Co. of Memphis and was a partner in Southland Motor Co. of Macon, Miss. He was owner of the B. F. Goodrich Auto Store of Starkville, Miss.

He retired as an auditor from the Mississippi State Tax Commission. Tommy and Dot moved to Pensacola, Fla. in 1995.

Mr. Greer was active in The Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Starkville and served as Senior Warden, Junior Warden and Treasurer.

Survivors include a son, Thomas H. Greer, Jr. and his wife, Joy, of Meridian, Miss., daughters, Laura Bess Greer Clapp and her husband, Roger, of Florence, Miss. and Dorothy Greer Tampary and her husband Anthony “Bubba” of Pensacola; grandchildren Thomas H. Greer III, Laura Greer Holladay, Debbie Greer Tucker, Roger Clapp, Jr., Todd Clapp, Andrew Clapp, Benjamin Clapp, Anthony Tampary, Jr., and Mary Alex Tampary Dill and seventeen great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 65 years, Dorothy West Ellison Greer and his parents.

Memorials may be made to the Episcopal Church of the Resurrection in Starkville or to a charity of choice.

His grandchildren will serve as Pallbearers, Thomas H. Greer III, Laura Greer Holladay, Debbie Greer Tucker, Roger Clapp, Jr., Todd Clapp, Andrew Clapp, Benjamin Clapp, Anthony Tampary, Jr., and Mary Alex Tampary Dill.

Oather Hickman Hastings

Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Hastings were called to Pittsburg, Texas Monday on account of the sudden death of Mr. Hastings' brother, Otha Hastings.

The body was brought to Alexandria and funeral services were held Wednesday and interment made in the Rapides Cemetery.

Besides C. J. Hastings, his brother residing here, he is survived by his mother, Mrs. J. P. Hastings of Alexandria, his widow and four children, one brother Odie Hastings of Kilgore, Texas, and two sisters, Mrs. Gould Owens and Mrs. Katherine Johnson of Alexandria.

Frances Virginia Wilkinson

Miss Frances Virginia Wilkinson (MTSU Library), 93, passed away Jan. 24. Miss Wilkinson taught library science at MTSU from September 1952 until her retirement as an associate professor in July 1980. She is survived by a sister, Rebecca Ann Wilkinson Mullins (Mrs. Eugene R.); a niece, Anne M. Hogan (Jack), of Montclair N.Y.; and nephews William E. Mullins (April) and Dr. James G. Mullins (Maria) of Decatur, Ga. A graduate of Middle Tennessee State College and George Peabody College for Teachers, Miss Wilkinson was acquisitions librarian and one of the Todd Library’s principal book-selection officers, growing the MTSU collection from 39,676 volumes in 1952 to 422,521 volumes at her retirement. Miss Wilkinson was interested in genealogy and family history and was the author of The Wilkinson Family of Middle Tennessee (1976), The McCord Family: From Skye to Tennessee and Giles Porter Hastings: His Forbears, His Descendants (1980). A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Kenneth Green Work

The funeral service for retired truck driver Kenneth Green Work of Paris was planned at 2 p.m. today at McEvoy Funeral Home.

Dale Gallimore was to officiate. Burial was to follow in Spring Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation was Sunday and today.

Work, 77, died Friday, Jan. 16, 2009, at his residence.

His wife, Sarah Margaret Holman Work, survives. They were married on Sept. 11, 1960.

Born in Mansfield on Aug. 2, 1931, he was a son of the late Bryan E. and Callie M. Green Work.

Work was a member of Teamsters Local 705. He retired from Chicago in 1977. A member of AMVETS Post 17 in Chicago, he was a U.S. Navy Korean War veteran. He was a Baptist.

He also leaves two daughters: Kaye Andrews and Deborah Rinehart, both of Knoxville; two sons: Michael (Johnna) Work of Paris and Kenneth (Paulette) Rinehart of North Fort Myers, Fla..

One sister: Molly K. Brant of Columbia, S.C.; six grandchildren: Joel Evans, Jim (Sheri) Urbanski, Jessica (Tony) Giarrizzi, Margarett Rinehart, Brandon Clark and Zack Mount; and two great-grandchildren: Ethan Donahue and Jimmy Urbanski.

He also was preceded in death by two sisters: Jeanette Hall and Rose Shankle; and four brothers: Alton Work, Bryan Work Jr., John Lewis Work and Winfrey Doy Work.
