Warren O. Hastings


Warren O. Hastings departed this world on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2003. He was a beloved father, husband and friend. He was born in Horn Lake, Miss. on April 25, 1917 to Walter Owen Hastings and Pattie Mae Hastings.

He spent most of his younger years in Bastrop, La. He joined the Air Force in February 1942 and was a member of the 8th Air Corps during WWII in England. He retired from Reese AFB as a Senior Master Sergeant/E8 in 1962. He then went to work for Plains Co-op Oil Mill as a purchasing agent and retired in 1982.

His retired years were spent in Ruidoso, N.M. with his wife, Rusty where they enjoyed life to the fullest. In 1998 they returned to Lubbock. He is survived by his wife, Rusty; a daughter, Owen Artz; a son-in-law, Gary Artz; a brother, Bill Hastings; and four grandchildren, Angela Cardona, Shawn Cardona, Hayley Artz, and Ashley Artz, all of Lubbock.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Bennie Hildreth and Elizabeth Hastings. The family will hold a celebration of his life at Garrison Care Center, 3710 4th St. on Sunday, Aug. 24, 2003 at 2 p.m. The family suggests memorials to Garrison Geriatric Care Center of Lubbock or Hospice of Lubbock.

Ruth Ann Hastings Moose


ALBEMARLE - Ruth Ann Hastings Moose, 70, of 333 Anderson Road, Albemarle, died Monday, Oct. 18, 2010 at CMC-NorthEast. Her funeral will be at 3 p.m. Friday, Oct. 22, 2010, in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Mark Weekley officiating.  Burial will be in the Stanly Gardens of Memory.

Mrs. Moose was born May 29, 1940, in Cabarrus County.  She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Lillian Cochran Hastings.  She was educated at Pine Forrest High School and was a certified nursing assistant at Forrest Oaks. She was a member of Central United Methodist Church and a member of the Mother Bivens Circle at Central Methodist.

Mrs. Moose is survived by her husband, Edward M. Moose of the home; son, Edward Moose of Albemarle; daughters, Betty Ann Lowder of Albemarle and Cynthia Ruth Moose of Charlotte; five grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral Home on Thursday evening from 5 to 7 p.m.  Memorials may be made to Central United Methodist Church, 172 N. Second St., Albemarle, NC 28001 or to the Stanly County Animal Rescue League, PO Box 1676, Albemarle, NC 28002.

Rosetta Poteat Jenkins


KANNAPOLIS -- The funeral will be Friday for Rosetta Poteat Jenkins, 74, 2955 Camp Julia Road, died Tuesday (April 15, 2003) at NorthEast Medical Center, Concord, after several years of declining health.

Born April 28, 1928, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Jenkins was a daughter of the late William Ellis and Maude E. Stoker Poteat. She was formerly employed at China Grove Cotton Mills.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dorothy Hastings, and a great-granddaughter.

Survivors include her husband of 34 years Broadus L. Jenkins; daughters Jo Ann Hastings and Sharon Hastings, both of Kannapolis, and LaDonna Hastings, Iron Station; sons Robert Hastings, Mooresville, and Alan Hastings, Kannapolis; stepdaughter Frances Stevens, Lancaster, S.C.; stepsons Ray Jenkins, Lancaster, S.C., Bruce Jenkins, Kannapolis, and Wayne Jenkins, Huntingburg, Ind.; 26 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, Whitley's Funeral Home chapel, conducted by the Rev. Jon Jones. Burial, West Lawn Memorial Park, China Grove.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight at the funeral home. At other times the family will be at the home on Camp Julia Road.

Jessie Hager Hastings


Jessie Hager Hastings, 89, of West Main St., Rock Hill, SC, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2011, at Westminster Health and Rehab Center, Rock Hill.

Born February 3, 1921, in Denver, NC, she was a daughter of the late Charles Alfred and Fannie Sherrill Hager, and the wife of the late Webb Eugene Hastings.  Mrs. Hastings was a homemaker, and a member of Faith Presbyterian Church of Mount Mourne, NC.  After moving to Rock Hill, SC, Mrs. Hastings attended Westminster PCA in Rock Hill. She loved reading, flowers, and enjoyed spending time with her friends at Morningside Assisted Living.

She was preceded in death by brothers, George, Gene and Charlie “Bandy” Hager; and sisters, Vera Hastings and Alice Baker. Mrs. Hastings is survived by her children, Linda H. Lipe and husband, Rev. J. Paul Lipe, of Delhi, LA, and Tony E. Hastings and wife, Diane, of Rock Hill, SC; sister, Ruth Bumgarner, of Hickory, NC; grandchildren, Mary Linda Johnson, Jonathan Lipe, Tawnya Copeland and Mandy Distefano; and great grandchildren, Trey Moss, Mary Hastings Moss, Sarah Lipe, Anna Kathryn Lipe, John Paul Lipe, Lilly Lipe, Tristen Copeland, Hayden Copeland, Teagan Copeland, Peyton Webb Copeland, Atalana Distefano and Anthony Distefano.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM, Wednesday, February 2, 2011, at Faith Presbyterian Church, Mount Mourne, NC, with Rev. Newton Hoover and Rev. J. Paul Lipe officiating.  Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service. Myra Shelia Hastings Thompson


MEBANE, N.C. - Myra Shelia Hastings Thompson died at her residence on April 1, 2012.

Myra was a member of First Baptist Church of Mebane and was a member of the Sharon Knight WMU and Kingdom Seekers Classes. She enjoyed spending her free time gardening and crocheting.

A loving wife and mother, she leaves behind her husband of 39 years, Ron Thompson; daughter, Abby Thompson; and a sister-in-law, Evelyn Thompson.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Ernest William Hastings and Mabel Jackson Hastings.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Wednesday at McClure Funeral Service in Mebane.

Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the McClure Chapel with Dr. Terry Farmer officiating.

Burial will follow at 3 p.m. at Sharon Memorial Park, Charlotte, N.C.
