Frances Goldsmith Black Hastings

GREENVILLE, S.C. - Frances Goldsmith Black Hastings, 88, of Greenville, died May 25, 2005 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Anderson, S.C., daughter of the late Rev. and Mrs. Joseph T. Black of Easley and Pickens, S.C.

FUNERAL: 11 a.m. Friday, St. Giles Presbyterian Church, Greenville.

INTERMENT: 3 p.m. Friday, Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, Spartanburg.

VISITATION: One hour before service at the church.

She was a graduate of Duke University School of Nursing and was a member of St. Giles Presbyterian Church. She was a devoted wife and mother.

SURVIVORS: Her four children, Tina Hastings Barringer (Don) of Gastonia, NC, Pam Hastings Morgan (Mike) of Florence, SC, Jim W. Hastings (Anne) of Greenville, SC, and John R. Hastings, Sr. (Donna) of Simpsonville, SC; eight grandchildren, Pamela Barringer Davis (Dave) of Winston-Salem, NC, Kimberly Barringer Witherell (Tim) of Gastonia, NC, Meredith Morgan Banner (David) of Florence, SC, Dr. Michael Morgan (Cynthia) of Charleston, SC, Catherine, Jay and Elizabeth Hastings of Greenville, SC, and John R. Hastings, Jr. (Kristen) of Boiling Springs, SC; four great-grandchildren, Meredith and Marshall Witherell, Jack Banner and Millie Kate Hastings. She is also survived by step-grandchildren, Todd E. Jarvis (Krystal) of Piedmont, SC and Traci Carpenter (Josh) of Hickory, NC, and three step-great-grandchildren, Anamarie Jarvis, and Christopher and Courtney Wood. Additionally, she is survived by her brothers, Bill Black (Rica) and Jack Black (Della) of Pickens, SC; her sisters, Ann Black Brown (J. W.) of Greenville, SC and Margaret Black Martin (Carl) of Clinton, SC, and many nieces and nephews.

PRECEDED IN DEATH BY: Her husband, Dr. Walter Darlington Hastings Jr., of Spartanburg, S.C.; her sisters, Ada Black McGovern (John), Betty Black Valley Ellison (Charles, Bob), June Black Kroeg (Alec), and Caroline Black Kee (Billy)
