Velma Hastings Snead


Mrs. Velma Snead, 94, passed away on Sunday, June 2 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Huntingdon. Funeral services will be conducted on Wednesday, June 5 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chase Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Paul Merwin, Bro. Russ Carlock and Bro. Vance Rushing officiating. Interment will follow in the Shiloh Cemetery in Mansfield.

Mrs. Snead was born October 19, 1907 in Carroll County to the late Robert Lee Hastings and Anna Beulah Wilcox. She was a graduate of Henry High School and attended Bethel College in McKenzie. She retired from the Department of Human Services, serving as Carroll County Director in 1972 and was a member of the Long Rock Methodist Church. Her husband, Mace Snead, who died in 1977 and two sisters, Ruth McCadams and Gladys Davis preceded her in death.

Survivors include a niece, Bessie Ruth Ashby of Mansfield, two nephews, Charles Davis of Hollow Rock and Carl Davis of Mansfield; a foster brother, Vernon Walker of Orange Blossom, Florida; and three great-nieces and six great-nephews.

The family will receive friends in the Cherry Wood room of Chase Funeral Home from 4:00-8:00 p.m. Tuesday.
